Four Central European RFOs Sign a Letter of Intent on the Establishment of the »Central European Science Partnership – CEUS«

In the framework of activities under Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and lively festival »BE OPEN - Science & Society Festival«, four Central European research funding organisations, among them ARRS signed a Letter of Intent on the establishment of the »Central European Science Partnership – CEUS«.

(Vienna, September 12 2018) CEUS partners, FWF (Fonds zur Förderung der wissenschafltichen Forschung, Austria), GA ČR (Grantová Agentura České Republiky, Czech Republic), NCN (Narodowe Centrum Nauki, Poland) and ARRS (Javna agencija za raziskovalno dejavnost Republike Slovenije,  Slovenia) have as founding members agreed to a closer collaboration and to, among other jointly develop concrete measures to stimulate and support the further cooperation and integration of research activities among the partner countries.

Ambassadors and CEUS partner countries Embassies’ to Austria high representatives also attended the signing ceremony and events at the »BE OPEN - Science & Society Festival«. Mag. Ksenija Škrilec, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Vienna and mag. Petra Draušbaher Krušič, Minister Plenipotentiary attended events.

Expressing content on expressed intention of strengthening ties among CEUS partners, Prof József Györkös, ARRS director underlined the founding ground of geographical proximity, based on rich common cultural heritage the CEUS is and shall be built upon. CEUS partner RFOs share similar approaches to research funding and supporting research, including commonalities on evaluation aspects. »I perceive CEUS partnership as a joint effort of four strong and equal partners to further support circulation of knowledge, enhance research potential in the region of Central Europe and therefore contribute to its enforced recognition in the international arena«, concluded Prof Györkös. 

CEUS partnership is by no means a closed partnership, and other partners may join CEUS in the future.
